Here are 7 things I thought were worth sharing:
Picture
  1. NYC is finally launching a One Book One New York citywide reading celebration, joining other cities around the country that have hosted similar events. New Yorkers can vote for one of the five book options during the month of February, and then the mass reading begins in early March!
  2. Our Black History Month book display and Black History Month resources on the library website are both up.
  3. The Library of Congress is offering five free weeklong Summer Teacher Institutes, and the application deadline is March 17th.
  4. Want to see if a book you are looking for on Amazon is available in your local library branch for free? Download this new Library Extension (only available for Chrome users) and a handy little box will pop up that will help you save money!
  5. Our third BPCS Reads! Book discussion will be happening on Tuesday, March 14th. There are a few copies of Hillbilly Elegy still available if you want to join us. Hope to see you there!
  6. Facing History and Ourselves just announced their Facing History Together Student Contest, which will award a total of more than $25,000 to winning students and their educators. Students in grades 7-12 can submit their essay entries beginning March 1st.
  7. Unite for Literacy has created a free, accessible, and full-text digital library for children. Great for younger students as well as your younger children at home!
